About

NOGP GE 2017 Meeting

Welcome to North Oxfordshire Green Party.

Formed in 2009, we campaign in the areas of the Banbury parliamentary constituency as well as Oxfordshire County Council, Cherwell District Council and parish councils including the Banbury Town Council. We are an active branch with over 100 members aged from 18 to 90 and from all walks of life.

We meet every second Monday in the month, usually at the Friends Meeting House in Banbury but occasionally at Sainsbury’s Bicester. As well as campaigning on various issues related to the environment and social justice and for elections we have social events for our members and the public at large.

If you’re not already a member of the Green Party, we do hope you’ll join us.

Our People

Robert Nixon - Chair, Website Developer and Membership Secretary

Robert Nixon

I joined the Green Party in 2015 just before the general election.

My role as Co-chair mainly involves ensuring the smooth running of the activities of the branch along with chairing meetings. I’m also the web developer for NOGP and developed the site which you are reading now. If you need help using the site feel free to contact me on the email address below. I’m also responsible for the branch membership records, please feel free to contact me with any membership related queries. I’ll either be able to help you myself, or put you in contact with someone who can.

I coordinate our activities in Bicester such as campaigning and meetings. If you are from Bicester and want to get involved I am the best person to contact.

I joined the Green Party in 2015 because I was tired of two party politics and the lack of awareness and investment in protecting our environment and social injustice. Having never taken part in any political matters before I was surprised how welcoming, engaging and pro-active the Green Party is, both on a local and national level.

In the North Oxfordshire region we are here to make a difference on factors that immediately impact the people of Banbury, Bicester, Kidlington and surrounding villages. This area has seen rapid growth in the recent years, there have been many instances of social and environmental injustice. We want to have our members elected to balance the councils, local government and Westminster. We are ready to serve our constituents, deliver the value you deserve, defend your local services and protect the environment.

If you feel passionately like we do about ensuring we look after our planet for the future generations of people and wildlife, join us. Make a difference on the local level and join our UK and EU Greens to do just that. We look forward to welcoming you soon. Please get in touch.

I’ve lived in Deddington for my whole life, working for many years at the local Coop while studying, as well as writing a column for the Parish Newsletter, serving on the Parish Council, running one of the mens’ football teams, and being a trustee of our online community radio station; Deddington OnAir, which I also provide content for.

I joined the Greens because I advocate egalitarianism, a diverse economy driven by SMEs, devolution of powers in public and private sector, direct democracy and environmental sustainability. As an authentic working class voice in a particularly affluent region, I would passionately promote truly affordable housing and a public transport network that really reduces traffic congestion, and even the need for cars. Power is too dangerous to rest in the hands of a few, and the Greens are the only major party united in demanding decentralisation and transparency at all levels of government, and represent the only authentic anti-Establishment voice demanding evidence and not ideology-led politics.
