North Oxon Greens visit Ardley ERF
On Monday, North Oxfordshire Green Party members and supporters from Banbury, Bicester, Kidlington and Oxford visited the Ardley Energy Recovery Facility. The facility, which you’ll have probably seen if you drive through Cherwell on the M40, is situated just outside Bicester and produces enough electricity to power around 53,000 homes.
Before taking a tour of the facility, the group attended a discussion focused on learning about what waste should be placed in a domestic recycling bin and what waste can not currently be recycled. Judging by the number of excellent questions asked, there’s still a lot of work to do to educate the public on how to recycle well!
During the tour, the group observed the work that happens in the control room. An operator uses a crane to lift waste from the tipping hall into a hopper ready to be burnt. After visiting the control room, the group toured the outside of the facility and viewed the tipping hall from the ground, before entering the hall housing the generator which produces the electricity.
